We offer a course of 60-minute lunchtime or after-school drama sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays in Reading, to students either in Reception up to Year 2 (KS1) or in Years 3 to 6 (KS2). These sessions are a mixture of games, script-work, singing and dancing, and work towards a performance at the end of each term.
Through a variety of games, students build confidence, develop emotional intelligence, and learn vital social skills including communication, working as a team, thinking creatively, problem solving and taking responsibility.
Through exploring age-appropriate scripts tailored to their group, students will learn skills pertinent to the national curriculum, such as reading aloud (KS1) and developing their understanding of punctuation and grammar (KS2).
Students who are keen to become performers themselves learn the basics of singing, movement, characterisation, improvisation and stagecraft.
Our teachers are all professionally-trained actors and experienced in working with children. Every teacher has an enhanced DBS on the Update Service and a basic level of safeguarding training.
There will be a performance at the end of each term, which we encourage parents and siblings to come and enjoy! The scripts are tailored to the needs of each group, so your child can work towards a role as large or as small as they wish. Each script includes a song and a short dance number, and uses language that is appropriate to the age-range of the group but designed to be challenging.
At Stage Left we pride ourselves on being inclusive, and we will always do everything in our power to make sure that any child who wants to join our sessions is able to.
